Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE performance of the Ministry of Energy and its affiliates has recorded a 95 percent performance score in the third quarter of the 2024/25 financial year, according to the latest evaluation report released by the Ministry.
The Tanzanian Ministry of Energy’s best performance can be attributed to significant progress in increasing electricity generation capacity, expanding natural gas distribution, and improving rural electrification. Specifically, the Ministry has increased power generation capacity connected to the national grid, extended electricity to a large number of villages, and expanded natural gas networks, enabling supply to homes, institutions, and industries.
The findings were revealed during the fourth official performance review session held in Dodoma, where senior Ministry officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Dr. Doto Biteko, assessed the progress made by the Ministry and its institutions.
The evaluation was conducted by the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit within the Ministry, covering all key departments, agencies, and energy-related entities under its oversight.
Speaking during the session, Dr. Doto Biteko commended the upward trajectory, emphasizing the importance of the findings, noting the critical role the energy sector plays in both public service delivery and economic development.
“The energy sector is not only essential for economic development but also directly affects the daily lives of Tanzanians,” said Dr. Biteko.
He added, “If this sector underperforms, it creates widespread public concern. That is why we must maintain momentum and aim for even higher efficiency.”
He further directed the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) to sustain its efforts in rehabilitating electricity infrastructure and to actively seek new sources of power generation to meet the nation’s growing energy demands.
Dr. Biteko also commended ministry staff and institutional leaders for their efforts in enhancing service delivery, which he said has resulted in noticeable improvements across the energy sector.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, echoed the sentiments, praising all institutions under the Ministry for their dedication and contribution to the improved performance.
She said the evaluation reflects ongoing improvements in operational efficiency and impact.
