Africa-Press – Tanzania. Tottenham Hotspur on Friday announced that it has parted ways with head coach Ange Postecoglou, citing poor domestic results despite success in Europe.

“Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties,” the club said in a statement.

Postecoglou, 58, led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years with a UEFA Europa League title on May 21, making him only the third manager in club history to win a European trophy.

“We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club,” the club said. “Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy.”

However, Spurs struggled in the English Premier League under his tenure, finishing the 2023-24 season in 17th place — their worst-ever league result. The club won only 11 of 38 league matches and recorded just 78 points from the last 66 Premier League games.

“Following a positive start in the 2023–24 Premier League season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season,” the statement said. “The Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place.”
