Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIAN President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Tanzania Police Force to step up its efforts in combating crime, particularly the increasing incidents of missing persons, a situation that has raised concern among the public.

President Samia issued the directive today while addressing Parliament in Dodoma during the official closing session of the 12th Parliament, where she also highlighted the government’s achievements during the current leadership phase ahead of the upcoming general elections.

In her address, the Head of State commended the Police Force for its improved performance in crime prevention, noting a significant increase in the pace of identifying, arresting, and prosecuting offenders.

“The government has continued to strengthen the Police Force by improving working conditions and expanding infrastructure,” said President Samia. “To date, a total of 472 police stations have been constructed across the country, police officers’ housing has been upgraded, and new operational equipment, including vehicles and motorcycles, has been procured.”

She further emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding the human rights of prisoners, stating that improvements have been made in housing, clothing, and food services for inmates, in line with the country’s economic growth.

President Samia also praised the Prisons Service for its effective rehabilitation of inmates and protection of their rights. She announced that the government has promoted 14,733 senior officers and personnel, and recruited 3,404 new officers to address the shortage of human resources.

“This also includes the provision of operational vehicles, the construction of eight new prisons, and ongoing construction of a regional referral prison hospital here in Dodoma,” she added.

On the technological front, the President stated that the government has enabled 66 prisons to adopt the digital court system (e-Judiciary), which facilitates court hearings without the need to transport inmates to courtrooms physically.

Regarding the Fire and Rescue Force, President Samia noted that the government has continued to build its capacity by completing three new fire stations, with eight more under construction. Existing stations have been renovated, and 12 new fire engines along with two rescue boats for use in the ocean and Lake Victoria have been acquired.

The President’s speech reaffirmed the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment to strengthening security and safety institutions to ensure that all citizens live in peace, safety, and with their rights protected.
