Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Namibia, Caesar Waitara, today officially launched a special introductory Kiswahili language training program to be conducted at Triumphant College in Windhoek, Namibia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony as the Guest of Honour, Ambassador Waitara stated that the training program is a result of the First Kiswahili Symposium organized by the Embassy of Tanzania in Namibia in April 2025, held at the same institution. The symposium aimed to promote and expand the use of the Kiswahili language in Namibia.
The 15-week training, scheduled to begin on July 29, 2025, will be delivered online through a collaboration between Triumphant College and the National Kiswahili Council of Tanzania (BAKITA).
In his remarks, Ambassador Waitara commended the students who have registered for the course for their commitment to learning Kiswahili a language spoken by over 200 million people across Africa. He emphasized that learning Kiswahili would enable them to communicate more effectively with people from various countries and would open up opportunities in trade, tourism, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
To date, 70 students have enrolled in the program, including the Namibian Ambassadors to Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as Namibia’s Consul General in Angola.
Ambassador Waitara underscored the significance of Kiswahili as a symbol of African identity, a unifying force, and a vital tool for communication in various social and economic sectors. He further pledged that the Tanzanian Embassy will continue to work closely with Triumphant College, BAKITA, and other stakeholders to promote and expand the teaching and use of Kiswahili in Namibia.
The launch event was held in a hybrid format. In-person attendees in Namibia included Prof. Geoffrey Kiangi, Vice Chancellor of Triumphant College, an officer from the Tanzanian Embassy, and Kiswahili students. The online session was attended by the Namibian Ambassadors to Nigeria and the DRC, as well as the Executive Secretary of BAKITA, Ms. Consolata Mushi.
