Africa-Press – Tanzania. COMMANDER of the Special Police Zone in Dar es Salaam, Jumanne Muliro, has made it clear that the Police Force recognizes the importance of creating an environment of peace, stability, justice, and respect for democratic principles during the 2025 General Election process.
He made these remarks today, August 20, 2025, during a dialogue on peace, justice, and democracy held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.
Commander Muliro stated that the governments formed must belong to the people and emerge from legitimate democratic wishes. He emphasized that every citizen has the right to fully participate in public affairs, including the right to vote and to be elected, adding that freedom of thought and opinion is a constitutional right even during election periods.
Furthermore, he explained that the Police Force will continue to ensure that the elections are conducted in a secure environment while upholding justice, peace, and stability. The force will also continue to combat any criminal activities that could incite violence during the elections.
Commander Muliro also reminded citizens of their responsibility to obey the law and protect national peace. “The matter of national security is a constitutional duty. The Police Force is tasked with ensuring the safety of people and property, but every Tanzanian has a responsibility to safeguard the peace of their country,” he emphasized.
