Africa-Press – Tanzania. ACT-WAZALENDO presidential candidate, Mr Othman Masoud Othman has urged Zanzibaris to elect him in the upcoming 2025 General Elections, promising bold reforms including a new minimum wage of 1m/-, improved benefits for public servants and a relent- less fight against corruption.

Addressing a large crowd at Kibanda Maiti grounds in Unguja, Mr Othman said the election is a defining moment for Zanzibar, offering voters a choice between “accountability and corruption, genuine development and continued poverty.”

“This election is not just about politics, it’s about our future, our dignity and our commitment to justice,” he declared.

Key pledges among his top priorities, Othman promised a new minimum wage of 1m/-, improved salaries and benefits for public servants, tough anti corruption measures across all sectors, a merit based government, free from political favouritism, policies to ensure food security, economic opportunity and fairness for all and crackdown on tax evasion.

Mr Othman also condemned companies registered on the mainland that operate in Zanzibar without paying local taxes.

The ACT-Wazalendo flag bearer called on citizens to turn out in large numbers on October 29, stressing the importance of electing “bold, visionary and accountable leaders” who will fight tirelessly for the welfare of all Zanzibaris, now and for future generations.

Mr Othman pledged to create an inclusive and transparent government where appointments are based on professionalism, skills and patriotism not party affiliation.

“In my administration, your ability and commitment to serve will matter more than your political background,” he said. He also promised to establish strong, independent institutions to safeguard democracy, ensure free and fair elections and protect citizens’ rights.

Highlighting the brain drain challenge, Mr Othman said his government would actively encourage skilled Zanzibaris living abroad to return and contribute to national development.

He also committed to modernising Zanzibar’s security forces and enhancing its international standing through diplomacy and economic reform.

“Zanzibar is too small for anyone to go hungry. Our policies will prioritise decent livelihoods, food security and shared prosperity,” he said.

The ACT-Wazalendo candidate reiterated his commitment to building a just, united and forward looking Zanzibar, where every citizen has an equal stake in the country’s progress, regardless of political or ethnic background.
