Africa-Press – Tanzania. TikTok has emerged as a major income stream for Kenyan content creators, thanks to a growing suite of monetisation tools designed to reward creativity and engagement.

The platform now offers features that allow creators to earn from both live and recorded content, with opportunities ranging from audience gifts to branded partnerships.

“African creators on TikTok have been rewarded for their creativity contrary to popular belief,” said Boniswa Sidwaba, Head of Content Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa.

“We have a number of tools that our community across the continent can currently benefit from. As a growing platform, we continuously test new products and features to ensure they bring maximum value and effectiveness for our creators.”

Among the most popular tools is the live gifts feature, which allows viewers to send virtual gifts during livestreams that can later be converted into real earnings. The video gifts option extends this to recorded content, letting creators benefit even when offline.

TikTok has also rolled out a subscription model, enabling creators to offer exclusive content to paying followers, while the work with artist feature lets users collaborate with musicians by promoting songs and campaigns for performance-based rewards.

Brand collaborations remain another lucrative avenue, where creators act as influencers, brand ambassadors, or showcase products in sponsored content.

Sidwaba noted that many African creators are already leveraging these tools successfully, with some earning steady incomes and building loyal communities. She urged Kenyan users to explore the TikTok Studio and its Creator Monetisation Centre to unlock available opportunities.

“Tiktok remains committed to helping creators find communities, grow careers, and turn their creative passions into sustainable sources of income,” she said.
