Africa-Press – Tanzania. CCM Zanzibar’s presidential candidate, incumbent Dr Hussein Mwinyi has stressed that peace is the foremost fundamental pillar of the party. He said that citizens have a duty to ensure that peace is maintained, as it is the cornerstone of all development and he pledged to safeguard the existing peace.
Dr Mwinyi made these remarks while addressing hundreds of CCM members and citizens during a campaign rally held yesterday at Msuka Sports ground in Konde Constituency, North Pemba Region.
The president highlighted CCM’s achievements in fostering development both in people and infrastructure across Unguja and Pemba, noting the party’s success in promoting reconciliation and uniting the people of Zanzibar.
He announced that the recent improvement in student performance marks significant progress in the education sector and promised the construction of more modern schools.
Dr Mwinyi also assured that the longstanding water shortage issue will soon be permanently resolved, ensuring all citizens have access to reliable water services.
He also promised the construction of the Wete and Shumba ports. Regarding infrastructure, he acknowledged there is still work to be done on roads and assured that the government is committed to building all major and internal roads within the near future.
Dr Mwinyi said the next government term, if re-elected, will increase social pensions for the elderly and retirees. It will also empower women involved in seaweed farming by improving their working conditions, providing interest-free loans, and supplying boats to fishermen.
Addressing the rising cost of food, Dr Mwinyi explained that prices are increasing due to high transportation costs. To tackle this, the government has strengthened ports, including regional ones, to reduce transportation expenses and lower the prices of goods.
Another priority is the construction of food storage warehouses and the purchase of food products from mainland Tanzania during harvest seasons to stabilize and reduce prices for citizens.
On the topic of cloves, he said the government has decided to issue official farm certificates to citizens to encourage better management and increased production. Dr Mwinyi promised continued government support to strengthen the clove industry, ensuring it remains a vital contributor to Zanzibar’s economy.
The rally included various groups such as fishermen, entrepreneurs, nutrition advocates, motorcycle taxi (bodaboda) operators, women, and widows. Deputy Secretary-General of CCM Zanzibar, Dr Mohammed Said Dimwa, praised the government’s significant progress in North Pemba over the past five years, highlighting improvements in all sectors.
He urged citizens to re-elect Dr. Mwinyi, describing him as a disciplined, honest leader who consistently delivers on his promises. The campaign event also witnessed 364 members of the ACT-Wazalendo party officially joining CCM, taking an oath of loyalty, and handing over their ACT-Wazalendo party membership cards to Dr Mwinyi.
