JKT Queens ready for Women’s Champions League campaign

Africa-Press – Tanzania. JKT Queens are geared up and ready to take on Africa’s elites in the CAF Women’s Champions League, which kicks off tomorrow in Egypt.

The team’s campaign begins on Sunday, when they face Gaborone United of Botswana in their first group stage match.

The Tanzanian champions, drawn in Group B, will also meet ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast on November 12th and TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on November 15th.

This marks JKT Queens’ second appearance in the continental tournament, having previously competed in 2023.

They missed last year’s finals while their fellow group members TP Mazembe are currently the defending champions with their third appearance in the finals.

The club’s Information Officer Masau Bwire told reporters yesterday that the team is fully prepared and motivated.

He confirmed the club’s delegation includes 23 players and 20 technical and administrative staff, all set for the international challenge.

“Our preparations are complete, and the players are ready. This tournament is a critical opportunity for Tanzanian women’s football to demonstrate its quality, gain experience and compete at the highest level on the continent,” Bwire said.

JKT Queens’ focus is on strong performances in the group stage and advancing to the knockout rounds, learning from their previous campaign where they did not progress beyond the initial stage.

Success in Egypt, he noted, would boost the profile of women’s football in Tanzania and inspire a new generation of athletes.

The team departed for Egypt yesterday, embarking on the journey that will see them compete against some of Africa’s most established women’s clubs.

Apart from JKT Queens, the only other Tanzanian team to reach this stage is Simba Queens, who made it to the semifinals in 2022.
