Tourism rebounds as flights resume at KIA

Africa-Press – Tanzania. TOURISM activities in Tanzania’s Northern Circuit have resumed in full swing following the return of major international airlines to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA)- the region’s main tourism gateway.

The revival comes after airlines from Europe and Asia reinstated their services, bringing in tourists and other visitors to the country.

Earlier, some carriers had temporarily suspended flights due to the violence that occurred along the Moshi–Arusha highway on October 29 this year.

KIA’s Marketing Manager, Mr Zefrin Lubuva confirmed that all major airlines have now resumed normal operations to Tanzania, particularly to KIA.

He noted that airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, KLM and British Airways are once again flying tourists and visitors into the country, where they are warmly received by local hosts before proceeding to various attraction sites across the Northern Circuit.

Mr Lubuva underscored that KIA serves as the primary gateway for tourism in the Northern Zone and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability to protect the industry.

He further explained that disruptions caused by violences or instability have far-reaching economic impacts, urging Tanzanians to safeguard peace diligently to ensure the continued growth of tourism and the national economy.

Mr Lubuva further stressed that the situation in the Northern Zone has now largely stabilised, allowing large international aircraft to resume landing at KIA. He noted that tourists arriving through KIA are continuing their journeys to various national parks for sightseeing and other tourism activities.

Meanwhile, a tour guide, Mr James Ndembeka told reporters that he was at KIA to receive a group of 50 guests arriving from several European and Asian countries for safari tours in Tanzania’s national parks.

Mr Ndembeka expressed confidence that calm has been fully restored and that tourism activities are proceeding normally.

He explained that following the violences on October 29, several major airlines temporarily suspended landings at KIA. However, once the suspension was lifted, normal flight operations resumed, enabling the return of international visitors and businesses.

He urged Tanzanians to safeguard peace and stability, stressing that unrest and demonstrations have a serious negative impact on the national economy and hinder development.

Mr Ndembeka called on all citizens to act as one another’s guardians during the challenges to avoid problems. He reminded the public that the nation’s founders left peace as a treasured legacy that must be protected for future generations.
