Africa-Press – Tanzania. Mr Nadir Abdul-latif Alwardy, the new Minister for Water, Energy and Minerals, has vowed to take strict action against any staff involved in theft, corruption or misconduct within the ministry.
Mr Nadir issued the warning shortly after formally taking office from the outgoing Minister, Mr Shaib Hassan Kaduara, during a ceremony held at the Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) in the Dr Ali Mohamed Shein Hall at Maisara.
He urged all ministry officials to uphold good governance, safeguard public resources and ensure full accountability.
“Anyone found engaging in theft or misconduct will face legal action. I will not allow anyone to sabotage the ministry’s performance,” he said.
To enhance service delivery, Mr Nadir announced that senior officials will sign three-month performance contracts, particularly as the ministry continues to face major challenges in electricity and water supply.
He also called for teamwork in implementing the CCM 2025–2030 Manifesto and President Dr Hussein Mwinyi’s directives, stressing the need to enforce spending discipline, reduce unproductive travel, update outdated laws and intensify field visits to monitor project quality and ensure value for money.
Deputy Minister Mr Seif Kombo Pandu, outgoing Minister Shaib Kaduara and former Deputy Minister Zawadi Amour Nassor urged staff to support the new leadership.
Permanent Secretary Joseph Kilangi pledged full cooperation to achieve the President’s goals in the water, energy and minerals sectors.
