Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Chairperson of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), Justice George Kazi has stressed the importance of transparency, professionalism and collaboration in strengthening electoral management in Zanzibar.

Speaking at a stakeholder review meeting on the 2025 Zanzibar General Election in Pemba on Wednesday, Justice Kazi said the discussions highlighted that election administration is not the sole responsibility of the Commission but a shared duty of society as a whole.

“Together, we have proven that the electoral process can be conducted transparently, professionally, and cooperatively. Elections are not the burden of the Commission alone—they are a national responsibility,” he said.

He added that the foundations laid during this year’s elections will serve as a guiding framework for future polls, reaffirming ZEC’s commitment to reforms that build public confidence in the electoral process.

Participants praised ZEC for conducting the 2025 General Election in a fair, peaceful and orderly manner, allowing citizens to exercise their constitutional rights without unrest. They noted that the process demonstrated how cooperation strengthens democratic principles.

Closing the meeting, ZEC Vice-Chairperson, Justice Aziza Suwedi, said the recommendations presented would be used to improve electoral systems and develop a comprehensive reform plan to enhance efficiency in future elections.

The review meeting was held at Makonyo Hall in Chake Chake District, Pemba, and was attended by representatives from government, political parties, the media, civil society organisations, special groups, and members of the public.
