THE Republic Korean Ambassador to Tanzania has praised the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) for its growing role in promoting innovation, research excellence and national development, saying the institution’s work is shaping Tanzania’s future economy.
During her visit yesterday, Ambassador Eunju Ahn lauded the dedication of NM-AIST students and leadership, noting that their efforts reflect a strong commitment to addressing societal needs.
She stressed that the institution’s innovation-driven culture and community-focused approach demonstrate significant investment in advancing both economic growth and social well-being.
Ambassador Ahn added that her visit laid the groundwork for deeper and more strategic cooperation between Tanzania and South Korea.
NM-AIST Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maulilio Kipanyula, reiterated the institution’s mission to tackle industrial and societal challenges through research and innovation.
He highlighted participatory research which brings together students, communities and industries as a key strategy designed to deliver impactful and sustainable solutions.
Prof Kipanyula further said that NM-AIST is well positioned to support Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2020–2050 by leveraging its expertise, research capabilities and robust infrastructure to contribute to priority sectors such as science and technology, energy and industrial development.
He also noted that the institution continues to benefit from a long-standing partnership with South Korea, which has supported academic staff development and infrastructure improvement.
A major milestone of the cooperation is the establishment of a technology park, envisioned to promote the production of various technological products and drive innovation-led growth.
Prof Kipanyula concluded that these collective efforts will continue to strengthen cooperation between NM-AIST and Korean institutions, opening new avenues for shared progress and development.
