Africa-Press – Tanzania. The government has issued an urgent advisory to Kenyans living in Tanzania following reports of possible unrest during the country’s Independence Day celebrations on December 9, 2025.
In a notice dated Friday, December 5, the Kenya High Commission in Dar es Salaam warned Kenyans living in Tanzania to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety.
Kenyans living in the neighbouring country were told to remain indoors should there be reports of unrest and to avoid all non-essential movement unless it is necessary.
They were also directed to avoid all large gatherings, protests, and security checkpoints. “The situation can change rapidly,” the High Commission warned.
“Follow official news channels and the High Commission’s social media/website for real-time, verified updates. Do not rely on unverified rumours,” read part of the statement.
The High Commission also urged Kenyans in Tanzania to have a pre-arranged communication plan with family and friends amid reports of potential disruptions to internet and mobile service.
Additionally, Kenyans in the foreign nation were also advised to ensure they have adequate supplies of food, water, necessary medications, and a charged mobile phone.
“If you require assistance or consular services, contact our emergency lines: [+255-690-283-011 or +255-690-283-012] and email [email protected],” the High Commission directed.
The High Commission further called on individuals to ensure that their travel or residence documentation is up to date and in adherence to the requirements of the laws and regulations of Tanzania.
The government’s urgent notice comes amid reports of planned anti-government protests in Tanzania on December 9, to demonstrate against the post-election killings witnessed in late October and early November this year.
However, the Tanzanian police have termed the planned protests as unlawful, warning of dire consequences to individuals found perpetrating chaos in any part of the country.
Tanzanian Police Spokesperson David Misime yesterday stated that the organisers had not submitted the required formal notice under Tanzanian law to hold the demonstrations.
