Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Tanzania Ltd, a subsidiary of MSC headquartered in France, for the design, construction and operation of three new berths at the Port of Bagamoyo.

The MoU was signed at TPA Headquarters in Dar es Salaam by TPA Director General Mr Plasduce Mbossa and AGL President Philippe Labonne.

Speaking shortly after the signing, Mr Mbossa said the MoU marks the readiness to begin the new Bagamoyo Port project, where AGL will initially start the design and construction of three modern berths out of the 28 planned for the port, along with two new modern berths at the Dar es Salaam Port.

“We expect to begin construction of the three new berths at the Port of Bagamoyo early in January and we also welcome other local and foreign investors to join the project, whose goal is to bring major transformation to port operations in the country,” said Mr Mbossa.

For his part, AGL President Mr Philippe Labonne said they decided to enter into the agreement and invest in Tanzania because it is a peaceful and secure nation with a stable and conducive investment environment, strategically located for the transport sector and serving as a national and international trade gateway.

“I believe Tanzania is a country experiencing rapid development, with a strong and capable workforce and a positive outlook. It is also a gateway to many African countries and international markets. I believe this partnership will unlock many opportunities, including job creation, which is vital for individual and national development,” said Mr Labonne.

The construction of the three new berths at the Port of Bagamoyo will take three years. AGL was selected to partner with TPA in the project due to its vast experience as a major transport and logistics company offering comprehensive services including cargo management, international transport and customs services.

It serves various sectors such as mining, oil, food and humanitarian aid, and is part of the global AGL group (formerly Bolloré T&L), now under MSC.
