Africa-Press – Tanzania. Tanzania is enjoying peace and normalcy, with streets, markets, and transport routes bustling once again.
The East African nation marked its 64th Independence Anniversary amid stability, with daily life returning to normal across the country.
Following the public holiday, citizens were urged to resume their routines while adhering to directives from security and defence agencies, with government reiterating its commitment to safeguarding lives and property amid concerns over potential unlawful demonstrations.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday after visiting Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) personnel and police officers on duty across the city, Home Affairs Minister George Simbachawene sought to allay any fears of disruption.
The minister commended the diligence of law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order. He praised the law enforcement agencies’ diligence in ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order.
“We commend you for the excellent work you are doing. We believe Tanzanians understand your efforts and are complying with the directives. So far, everything is progressing well,” said Mr Simbachawene, lauding the collaboration between security agencies and the public in sustaining stability.
The Minister added that he was encouraged to see officers performing their duties diligently, conducting checks, questioning individuals about their destinations and ensuring that people requiring essential services, such as medical care or access to basic necessities, are allowed to pass unhindered.
Mr Simbachawene also applauded the media for providing accurate reporting on the situation, despite the circulation of misleading and outdated video clips on social media, which some individuals have shared in an attempt to incite demonstrations.
In a related development, the Police Force, through a statement issued yesterday by its spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime, said it will continue to work with other security and defence agencies to reinforce security nationwide.
DCP Misime assured citizens that the Police Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, noting that the security situation across the country remains calm.
He reminded the public that, as stated in Police announcements on 3 and 5 December 2025, individuals planning so-called peaceful and indefinite demonstrations had been organising through online clubs and other communication platforms using 13 unlawful strategies, including attempts to halt all economic and social activities.
Police have been monitoring these communications since Tuesday (9 December), tracking organisers’ mobilisation efforts. After failing to execute their demonstrations on Tuesday, the organisers reportedly intended to continue in the following days, despite such actions contravening the 1977 Constitution and the Police Force and Auxiliary Services Act.
The Police Force reiterated its warning to the organisers not to proceed, emphasising that the planned demonstrations were banned on 5 December 2025 for failing to meet the legal requirements stipulated in the Constitution and relevant laws.

“The Police Force, in cooperation with other security and defence agencies, assures citizens that we will continue to safeguard the nation’s security, as well as your lives and property, so that you can carry on with your daily activities as usual,” said DCP Misime.
He added that anyone violating the law with the intention of jeopardising national security or disrupting economic and social activities will be dealt with accordingly, ensuring that peace-loving Tanzanians can continue to live safely.
The situation remained calm, with activities returning to normalcy, as observed yesterday across several parts of the city. While the number of commuters dropped significantly on Tuesday, with many people staying at home, public transport returned to normal yesterday, and the streets were as busy as ever.
The ’Daily News’ spot checks along Nelson Mandela Road, from TazaraBuguruni towards Ubungo-Mwenge, revealed steady movement. Similarly, the road from the City Centre to the Airport and onwards to Ngongolamboto was busy.
Despite a heightened security observed in certain areas, public and informal sector workers, including street vendors, continued with their activities in their respective offices and along the roadside respectively.
