Africa-Press – Tanzania. SIMBA Head Coach Steve Barker has urged his players to shift focus swiftly back to domestic action as they prepare to face KMC in today’s Mainland Premier League clash at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam, stressing that every league match now carries huge significance in their push up the table.
Speaking during a prematch briefing yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Barker emphasised the urgency of collecting maximum points, while defender David Kameta echoed the team’s determination to secure all three points despite expecting a tough encounter.
“We are excited to return to league action after our Champions League matches, and today’s game is very important as we aim to stay close to the top of the table,” Barker said, noting that Simba’s slight deficit in matches played makes every fixture critical.
“Every league match matters because we are slightly behind in terms of games played, so securing maximum points is essential. There are no easy matches in this league, but the players have shown great commitment and the team is improving with every game,” he added.
Barker expressed confidence that Simba are building momentum, saying recent performances have laid a strong foundation for success.
“The team is growing stronger match by match. If we continue building on our recent performances, we will be in a good position. But in football, you must score goals to win, so we must be more clinical in the final third,” he explained.
Defender David Kameta warned against underestimating KMC despite their position at the bottom of the table.
“Tomorrow’s (Today’s) match will be difficult because KMC are not a weak team. We must stay fully focused and fight for the three points,” Kameta said.
Simba currently sit seventh on the standings with 16 points from seven matches, and a victory would lift them to 19 points, potentially leapfrogging Dodoma Jiji. KMC, meanwhile, remain rooted at the bottom with eight points from 14 matches, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter for both sides.
