Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) has continued to provide professional training and awareness sessions to university and secondary school students as part of its efforts to promote the accounting profession and increase understanding of the Board’s role in Tanzania.
Speaking during the opening of the training session, NBAA Director of Corporate Services, CPA Kulwa Malendeja, representing the Executive Director, CPA Pius Maneno, commended the participating institution for organising a study visit that brought together students pursuing accounting and business-related programmes.
CPA Malendeja said the initiative is important in exposing students to practical knowledge about NBAA operations and the professional requirements needed to become certified accountants and auditors.
He noted that for one to be legally recognised as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an authorised auditor in Tanzania, they must sit for NBAA examinations and obtain a professional certificate, which is recognised both nationally and internationally, enabling graduates to work within and outside the country.
“I am pleased to see law students also participating in this visit, because they have the opportunity to study accounting courses and eventually qualify as CPAs,” said CPA Malendeja.
Meanwhile, NBAA Head of Public Relations and Communications Unit, Ms Magreth Kageya, said such study visits offer students an important opportunity to gain detailed information about the Board and the services it provides.
She added that following feedback from stakeholders, NBAA has decided to introduce two graduation ceremonies per year instead of one, in a move aimed at reducing delays in issuing professional certificates.
On his part, Dr Ayubu Timba, a lecturer from the Islamic University of Morogoro, thanked NBAA for inviting students and said the training provided will help guide them and strengthen their direction in the accounting profession.
He also urged the students to act as ambassadors of their profession by sharing the knowledge gained with their colleagues and the wider community.
