Africa-Press – Tanzania. IRINGA-based wheeler, Ahmed Huwel, has written a golden chapter in the Tanzanian motorsports scene besides winning the National Rally Championship (NRC)title for 2025.

His epic success in the wheeling business for 2025, also handed IrInga Region the NRC title, dethroning the 2024 winner, Dar es Salaam.

Driving the ultramodern Toyota Gazoo, a car of the World Rally Championship (WRC) caliber, Huwel won the national championship after winning three out of five rounds staged in the 2025 Rally season including the Tanzanian round of the African Rally Championship(ARC).

But to Satinder Birdi, the Chairman of Tanzania Motorsports Commission, Huwel deserved more than the championship trophy.

“Huwel and his Stado Rally Team mate, Maisam Fazal did a recommendable job for motorsports in 2025. We at the commission thank them for writing a golden chapter in the 2025 rally season,” he said during the Best Drivers Gala held on Sunday evening at Four Points Sheraton in Dar es Salaam.

According to Birdi, Huwel under the Mkwawa Team banner sponsored three rounds of the National Rally Championship staged in Iringa, Morogoro and Arusha, while Misam Fazal spearheaded the success of the Kisarawe Rally of Dar es Salaam.

Heading to the 2026 Rally Season, Huwel has already pledged to bankroll three rounds of NRC to be staged in Iringa, and Morogoro altogether with a round of the African Rally Championship(ARC).

“I also promise to sponsor three new drivers and cars that will be taking their maiden entry to this year’s calendar,” said Huwel.

Also decorated during the Night of Champions Gala were Manmeet Birdi as the best navigator for 2025 while Zambian Dave Sihoka was also awarded as the top senior navigator.

Manmeet scored 156 points,Dave Sihoka penned 110 points and the third-placed Ally Humoud carved 102 points

Randeep Singh, Manveer Birdi and Arusha’s Gurpal Sandhu also excelled in best driver’s category.

Arusha was named the club of the year as Mkwawa Rally Team won the team of the year award.
