Makonda orders speedy action on Simba SC transformation

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has directed the Registrar of Sports Associations to expedite the pending transformation process of Simba SC, insisting that feedback be issued before the end of this month.

Makonda issued the directive yesterday during a press briefing following the signing of a new contract for Taifa Stars Head Coach Miguel Gamondi.

He instructed the Registrar to provide formal comments on the club’s submitted documents without further delay, whether highlighting challenges, proposing improvements to the constitution, or outlining additional legal and regulatory requirements.

“The response must be given within this month. If there are areas that need improvement in their constitution or matters they must comply with under the law, regulations and guidelines, they should be clearly informed,” Makonda said.

The Minister noted that his office had received numerous enquiries regarding the status of Simba’s transformation, but stressed that he did not intend to interfere in the process. Makonda emphasised that the government’s role is to facilitate development rather than create bottlenecks.

“There have been many calls on this matter. I do not want to intervene in the case, but I remind the Registrar to take responsibility and act within the required timeframe. “The government is here to facilitate speed, not delays. Once the response is issued, Simba will know the next steps to take,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Minister called upon the National Sports Council to ensure that all sporting disciplines raise their standards to match or surpass those set by the Tanzania Football Federation. He observed that Tanzania is rich in talent, with many young people aspiring to excel through sport, and urged greater support for disciplines beyond football.

“We are blessed with abundant talent in this country. Many young people dream of building their livelihoods through sport. Non-football sports must be given the support they need. We have many sports in this country where are they? We need to see them competing on international platforms,” Makonda said.

He further challenged sporting bodies to improve performance levels, noting that the nation expects trophies and medals. “The bar must be raised. As a nation, we need results. We want to see our athletes winning trophies and medals and flying the Tanzanian flag high,” he said.
