THE Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Yusuph Mwenda, has officially launched the Women and Tax Forum aimed at empowering women engaged in business by providing tax education, listening to their challenges, and offering practical solutions.
Speaking on March 6, 2026, during the launch, Commissioner General Mwenda stated that the forum will serve as a key link between TRA and women entrepreneurs, strengthening collaboration and helping women understand and comply with tax matters more effectively.
He explained that the forum also aims to support women in their economic activities by addressing various tax-related challenges within TRA’s capacity. Through this platform, women will be able to continue their businesses without tax-related barriers, while also providing opportunities for those whose businesses have stalled to revive and re-enter the business cycle.
Commissioner General Mwenda emphasized that TRA plays a crucial role in the country’s business development and has a responsibility to act as a bridge between entrepreneurs and other development institutions. He noted that the authority will continue to assist entrepreneurs in accessing opportunities and essential services that can stimulate business growth.
Furthermore, he stated that the forum will help connect women entrepreneurs with markets for their goods and services, highlighting that one of the major challenges facing micro, small, and medium enterprises is access to reliable markets.
Earlier, speaking about the forum, TRA’s Director of Taxpayer Education and Communication, Richard Kayombo, said the initiative will provide tax education in simple and understandable language, foster positive relationships between TRA and taxpayers, and address the challenges faced by businesswomen.
