THE Chairperson of the Tanzania Public Institutions, Agencies and Private Companies Sports Federation (SHIMMUTA), Roselyne Massam, has officially handed over the Workers’ Sports Policy titled “Sports for the Well-Being of Workers” to the Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), Neema Msitha, as part of efforts to strengthen and coordinate sports activities among the federation’s members across the country.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Massam said the policy aims to enhance collaboration between SHIMMUTA and the National Sports Council in promoting and organizing workplace sports. She explained that the policy positions sports as an important tool for improving employees’ health, strengthening workplace unity, increasing productivity, and creating employment opportunities, all of which contribute to the country’s social and economic development.
Massam added that the implementation of the policy will help SHIMMUTA members cultivate a culture of regular participation in sports and physical activities, which will improve workers’ well-being and enhance efficiency in the performance of their daily duties.
On her part, the Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council, Neema Msitha, commended SHIMMUTA for the initiative, describing it as an important contribution to the advancement of the sports sector in Tanzania.
Msitha explained that the National Sports Council is the government institution mandated to oversee the sports sector in the country, established under Act No. 12 of 1967, Chapter 49. She noted that the Council is responsible for ensuring that all sports activities in the country are implemented in accordance with established guidelines, regulations, and laws in order to promote sustainable development in the sector.
She further emphasized that cooperation among institutions, including SHIMMUTA, is essential to ensuring that sports become a catalyst for community well-being and national development.
