Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Mara Region, through the Sirari border post in Tarime district, has distributed industrial goods confiscated from traders who smuggled them illegally to various public institutions, including schools and hospitals.

Pascal Kiondo, the Customs Officer in charge at Sirari, stated that the Commissioner of Customs has the legal authority to allocate these goods to public institutions. The items distributed include cement, fertilizers, sanitary towels, and medical supplies.

Kiondo emphasized that despite ongoing efforts to educate and encourage traders to avoid illegal trade, some individuals continue to move goods through unofficial channels. He added that TRA will not hesitate to take strict action against anyone found involved in smuggling activities.

Traders are also being encouraged to follow transparent and straightforward customs procedures, and those facing challenges are advised to contact TRA officials for further assistance.

Some officials from the beneficiary institutions, including the Mara Regional Commissioner’s Office—Agriculture Unit, expressed their gratitude to TRA and pledged to use the distributed goods for their intended purposes.
