Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has reiterated its commitment to assisting Tanzanian citizens both at home and abroad whenever necessary, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa has said.
Speaking on Thursday at the Ministry’s sub-offices in Dar es Salaam, Ambassador Mussa expressed appreciation to representatives of the Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna‐Asheri Jamaats of Africa, who visited the Ministry to convey their gratitude following the safe return of their children from the Middle East.
“Through the efforts of the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at least 42 youths who crossed the border from Iran into Türkiye were assisted. Our Embassy in Türkiye took responsibility, on behalf of the government, to facilitate their evacuation and ensure they returned safely home,” Ambassador Mussa said.
He noted that the Africa Federation community had eight students among those affected – two of whom travelled from Türkiye to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, while six have already arrived back in the country.
Ambassador Mussa said the efforts were undertaken under the directives of President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has consistently emphasised the importance of assisting Tanzanian citizens both within and outside the country whenever they face difficulties.
He also commended the cooperation and dedication shown by the Director of the Middle East Department, Ambassador Abdallah Kilima, and his team for their role in ensuring the students’ safe return to their families.
The government, he added, will continue to take similar measures, as some Tanzanian citizens are still stranded in parts of the Middle East.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens wherever they may be,” he said.
On behalf of the Africa Federation, Chairman and Ambassador Alhaj Aunali Khalfan expressed profound appreciation to the Government for the support extended to the affected students.
“I would like to convey our sincere greetings to President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership and for the strong cooperation we received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,” Alhaj Khalfan said.
He added that the Federation was grateful for the assistance provided to their students who had been stranded due to the conflict.
“The government made significant efforts to ensure they were provided with transport, accommodation and other necessary support until they were able to return home safely,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Shaban and Ms Zia Abdi, parents of one of the returned youths and members of the Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna‐Asheri Jamaats, thanked the Ministry and its Middle East Department under Ambassador Abdallah Kilima for their continued support, which enabled the students to safely rejoin their families.
They also appealed for such prompt assistance to continue being extended to other Tanzanian citizens who may face emergencies that threaten their lives.
The representatives further pledged their continued cooperation with Government institutions, describing the repatriation exercise as an example of people‐centred diplomacy and a swift response to citizens’ needs.
Tanzania has a history of engaging with its citizens abroad, especially during crises. The government has established protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of its nationals, reflecting a commitment to protecting its citizens regardless of their location. Recent efforts have included evacuations and support for those stranded due to conflicts or emergencies, showcasing the government’s proactive approach to foreign affairs and citizen welfare. This commitment is rooted in the broader context of Tanzania’s diplomatic relations and its responsibilities towards its citizens.
