Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has led national leaders and members of the public in paying their last respects to the late William Lukuvi at a solemn farewell ceremony held at Karimjee Grounds in Dar es Salaam today, March 28, 2026.
Various senior government officials, political leaders and residents gathered at the grounds to honour the deceased, who served as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities) and Member of Parliament for Isimani.
Speaking at the funeral, the Head of State described the late Lukuvi as a principled, hardworking leader who generously shared knowledge and left valuable lessons for fellow leaders.
Additionally, he said that Lukuvi’s life exemplified integrity and dedication to public service noting that the late leader was not only committed to his duties but also deeply compassionate, often touched by the challenges facing ordinary citizens.
“He built strong relationships with communities wherever he lived and worked, reflecting his genuine care for people. His legacy should inspire current and future leaders to emulate his work ethic, humility and commitment to serving citizens” she said.
Speaking earlier, Zanzibar’s President, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, called on leaders to honour the late William Lukuvi by upholding his legacy of hard work and dedicated public service while describing him as a committed and selfless leader who consistently placed national interests above personal gain throughout his career.
He stressed that the most meaningful tribute would be for leaders to emulate Lukuvi’s diligence, patriotism and unwavering commitment to serving Tanzanians.
“Lukuvi’s record in public service stands as a benchmark for ethical leadership. I call on future leaders to carry forward the same spirit of accountability and devotion to duty.
Following the Dar es Salaam farewell ceremony, the body will be transported on March 29 to Iringa Region for further public viewing scheduled for March 30.
Lukuvi passed away on March 25, 2026, at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
He is expected to be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in Idodi Village, Iringa Rural.
