Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA maintained their impressive form at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Subregional Qualifier B, thrashing Seychelles by 153 runs in Accra, Ghana.

The national side delivered a commanding all-round performance, posting a formidable 205/3 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Seychelles to just 52/9 to seal a comprehensive victory.

The highlight of the match was a brilliant century by Ivan Ismail, who smashed 110 runs off just 52 balls in a dominant display of batting that set the tone for Tanzania’s win.

The result further underlines Tanzania’s growing strength in both batting and bowling as they continue to build momentum in the tournament.

The victory follows earlier dominant performances, including a massive win over Eswatini and an eight-wicket triumph against Malawi in their opening fixture, reinforcing their status as one of the standout teams in the competition.

Speaking after Friday’s match, Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chairman, Dr Balakrishna Sreekumar, praised the team’s performance while urging continued progress.

“It is heartening to see our boys perform at this level. However, it is also important to recognise that the standard of competition has contributed to the convincing victory,” he said.

He noted that Tanzania still has ground to cover to compete with stronger cricketing nations.

“We still have a long way to go to catch up with teams like Namibia, Bahrain, Italy, UAE, Scotland and Ireland. The gap between these sides and Testplaying nations remains significant.

Efforts must be made to close this gap if cricket is to grow globally, especially in Africa. Several cricket leaders are currently working on a white paper to present to the ICC for further discussion,” he added.

The Cricket Legend of Tanzania leader, UK-based Kanu Rathod, also applauded the team’s performance, singling out Ivan Ismail for his outstanding innings.

“Fantastic win for Team Tanzania once again. Congratulations to Ivan (Ismail) for his century in just 52 balls. That is truly special and makes us all proud. I am confident his performance will inspire others in the team,” he said.

With back-to-back dominant victories, Tanzania returned to action against St Helena aiming to extend their winning streak and further cement their place among the tournament’s top contenders.
