Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has commended improvements in public financial management after receiving a report by the Controller and Auditor General (CAG), which showed an increase in clean audit opinions for the 2024/25 financial year.
The Head of State said the rise, compared to the 2023/24 audit, reflects positive progress in strengthening systems for managing public resources, while urging swift action to address the remaining shortcomings highlighted in the report.
“The CAG report shows that clean audit opinions have increased compared to the previous financial year. This is a good step that demonstrates how we are improving our strategies in managing public resources,” she said.
Additionally, as CAG’s report identified areas of weakness and provided recommendations on measures needed to prevent recurrence the President affirmed that the government will act in accordance with the law and implement the recommendations to address the identified gaps.
“The government will take appropriate action as guided by our laws and as recommended by the CAG to eliminate the existing weaknesses,” she stressed.
Meanwhile, she also pointed to improvements highlighted in the report by the Director General of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), noting that the situation has improved compared to previous years, although some irregularities continue to recur.
She further directed the PCCB to intensify efforts in tackling corruption without fear or favour.
“I direct the PCCB to continue taking firm action impartially in addressing acts of corruption and embezzlement,” she said.
President Samia further called on leaders both within and outside government to uphold integrity and actively fight corruption in their areas of responsibility, stressing that doing so will safeguard national resources and lay a strong foundation for sustainable development for present and future generations.
