The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has achieved a record revenue collection of 9.31 trillion TZS in the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, exceeding its target by 106.4%. This marks a significant increase from the previous year and highlights the effectiveness of TRA’s cooperation with taxpayers and business leaders.

Africa-Press – Tanzania. STRONG cooperation between the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and taxpayers has enabled the agency to set a new record after collecting 9.31tri/- in the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, achieving 106.4 per cent of its 8.75tri/- target.

In a statement issued by TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda in Dar es Salaam, the authority collected 3.5tr/- in March alone, surpassing its monthly target of 3.32tri/- by 107.6 per cent.

According to the Commissioner, the performance represents a 23.6 per cent increase compared to 7.53tri/- collected in the same period of the 2024/25 financial year.

Additionally, he said that the average monthly collection for January to March 2025/26 rose to 3.10tri/- from 2.51tri/- recorded in the corresponding period last year.

Moreover, he said that TRA has now exceeded its revenue targets for 21 consecutive months since July 2024, marking a historic milestone in the authority’s performance.

In comparison to the 2020/21 financial year, when the government entered office, the third-quarter collections have increased by 114.1 per cent from 4.35tri/- and that during the period from July 2025 to March 2026, the authority registered 900,755 new taxpayers, surpassing its target of 685,706 by 131.36 per cent.

Furthermore, he attributed the strong performance to improved engagement with business leaders and taxpayers through continuous dialogue and problem-solving forums, saying it will maintain close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure full achievement of the 2025/26 revenue targets and support national development priorities.

The agency’s focus on engaging with taxpayers and business leaders has led to a remarkable increase in revenue collection, reflecting a broader trend of improving fiscal management in Tanzania.
