Africa-Press – Tanzania. COSAFA U-15 champions boys Zambia will begin their quest for continental glory with a stern test against reigning African champions Tanzania at the CAF African Schools Championship, which kicks off on Monday, 6th April, 2026 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The game will kickoff at exactly 10:40 hours. Speaking during a pre-match press conference, Head Coach Evaristo Mkandawire expressed confidence in his youthful side, promising an exciting brand of football built on identity and structure.

“You should expect a very good game one played at high intensity, with quick transitions and purposeful play into the pockets. That is the philosophy we have instilled in this young generation,” Mkandawire said.

Mkandawire acknowledged the competitive edge of facing regional neighbour Tanzania but maintained that his team is under no pressure heading into the fixture.

“These are our neighbours. I call them our ‘half-brothers’ but there is no pressure on us,” he said.

“We will play to enjoy ourselves, but we will also give them a tough game. They will have to work hard because Team Zambia is ready. We are really looking forward to the match.”

The coach emphasised the importance of holistic development at youth level and highlighted both physical and mental preparation as key components of his approach.

“At this developmental stage, it is critical that we prepare the boys both physically and mentally,” Mkandawire explained. “We have reminded them that football has three outcomes; a win, a draw, or a loss. What matters most is how well we execute our game plan.”

Team captain Emmanuel Mpongo has said the squad is confident and unfazed ahead of their opening encounter.

“Looking at our first game, we have no pressure because I am very confident in my teammates,” Mpongo said. “We believe in ourselves, and we are ready.”

The Chelstone Secondary School pupil also said that the team spirit within the camp has been a major boost during preparations.

“Our preparations have been excellent, and there is strong cohesion in the team. We are excited to be here we have been singing a lot together and we are ready to face the African champions, Tanzania. We are very confident going into this match.”

Mpongo, who looks up to Chipolopolo defender Stophira Sunzu as his role model, expressed optimism as Zambia prepares for what promises to be a thrilling continental opener. Other teams to square it out against Zambia are West African giants Senegal and Benin.
