AfricaPress-Tanzania: MISSENYI District in Kagera has managed to attract at least 3 7 industries in the past five years.
Missenyi District Commissioner (DC) Col Denice Mwila told the ‘africa-press’ that the number of industries increased from 61 in 2015 to current 98 and offered employment to 1,620 youths.
“We thank the government for efforts in supplying electricity to rural areas. Kagera residents should utilize the opportunity by constructing industries in line with the government industrialization ambition coming 2025,” Col Mwila said.
The list includes two large industries, five medium industries and 91 small industries while the number of villages connected with electricity increased from 26 in 2015 to 7 2 this year.
Due to availability of ample power, the DC called for investors to invest in textiles, agri-processing and other manufacturing factories.
President John Magufuli’s administration has embraced industrialization as part of the panacea for unemployment among the youths because the ambition was expected to be one of the significant remedies for creating thousands of job across the country.
“Industries have great potential of creating jobs and attracting capital, skills and knowledge… industrialization is the way to prosperity…national development cannot be imported, it must come from within,” he said.
The government is determined to ensure that by 2025 all villages in the country are connected with electricity.
About 541 villages out of 662 villages in Kagera had already been connected with electricity, equivalent to 81.7 per cent.
The remaining 121 villages would get electricity by 2021 while customers connected with electricity increased from 56,671 during 2015 to 8 9,17 2 by end-June
