Africa-Press – Tanzania. Egypt’s national team turned a deficit into a victory, winning 3-1 against New Zealand in the second round of Group G at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, achieving its first win in World Cup history.

New Zealand took the lead first with a goal from Finn Surman in the 15th minute of the first half.

However, Egypt managed to come back in the second half, scoring three consecutive goals.

Mostafa Zico equalized for Egypt in the 58th minute.

Then, captain Mohamed Salah gave the Pharaohs the lead in the 68th minute.

Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” capped off the trio in the 81st minute, assisted by Salah, who established himself as the star of the match.

Egypt’s national team now has four points at the top of Group G, drawing closer to realizing its dream of reaching the Round of 32, even as one of the best third-placed teams.

Egypt had opened its campaign in the tournament with a draw against Belgium (1-1), and the victory over New Zealand marks the first win for Egypt in the tournament’s history.

The Egyptian team will face Iran in the final round next Saturday, while New Zealand will meet Belgium on the same day.
