Africa-Press – Tanzania. KAGERA Regional Commissioner (RC) Brig-Gen Marco Gaguti has directed district directors to ensure the construction of the remaining classrooms is completed before January next year.
Speaking during the handover of buildings at Mugeza Secondary School in Bukoba Municipal Council on Thursday, Brig-Gen Gaguti said the region had a shortage of about 250 classrooms.
However, he was quick to point out that all pupils with eligible qualifications would join secondary education next month.
Kyerwa District Commissioner (DC) Rashid Mwaimu, on the other hand, said his district had a shortage of only 16 classrooms while efforts were being made to complete the construction project by the end of this month.
Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Good Governance) Selemani Jafo announced on Thursday that about 759,706 pupils had been selected to join Form One next year.
He directed regional commissioners and district commissioners whose areas were facing a shortage of classrooms to work with education stakeholders and complete the construction project by the end of February next year.
However, Mr Jafo clarified that pupils from nine regions including Kagera, Katavi, Lindi, Mtwara, Mwanza, Njombe, Ruvuma, Songwe and Tabora with eligible qualifications would all join secondary education in January next year.
