DAR PARDONS ETHIOPIAN PRISONERS

AfricaPress-Tanzania: President John Magufuli has pardoned 1,789 Ethiopian prisoners jailed for entering the country illegally.

The release of the inmates is a result of talks held in Chato on Monday between President Magufuli and his visiting Ethiopian counterpart Sahle-Work Zewde.

The two African countries enjoy good relations since the 1960s during the regimes of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Ethiopia’s Emperor Haile Sellasie.

President Magufuli both nation are devising ways to release the pardoned prisoners who entered on transit to an unknown destination.

Meanwhile, Dr Magufuli has welcomed Ethiopian investors in the leather industry.

President Magufuli said he believes President Sahle-Work visit will have a positive impact on the economies of the two countries
