COMMITTEE WARY OF SCHOOL PROJECT

AfricaPress-Tanzania: A COMMITTEE comprising members of the Bukoba District Defence and Security Committee (DDSC) has expressed dissatisfaction with a school construction project and directed Bukoba Municipal Director Maurice Limbe to conduct a special audit.

Committee Chairman Hamza Kimwa said the committee visited Hamugembe Secondary School, but was disappointed to find two classrooms which were constructed last year in bad shape.

“The construction project costs about 36m/- out of which residents contributed at least 14m/-. It is obvious the work was not up to standard…this raises many questions. We have directed the municipal director to conduct a special audit. Those who will be proved to have stolen the money will be prosecuted,” he said.

Mr Kimwa further said the committee was also shocked to find that over 200 pupils at Kashabo Nursery School in Hamugembe Ward were sitting on the floor during class due to lack of desks.

“Urgent action is needed to solve the problem,” he said.
