AfricaPress-Tanzania: TIGO Tanzania has launched a tree planting initiative dubbed Tigo Green for Kili project, in a bid to conserve Mt Kilimanjaro.
The main purpose of the Tigo Green for Kili project is to help with the conservation of Mountain Kilimanjaro by planting as many trees as possible and Tigo is committed to start with 10,000 trees.
Tigo Tanzania Northern Zone Director, Henry Kinabo said, “Tigo Tanzania is sponsoring the Tigo Kili Half Marathon 2021 for a record sixth year.
We felt there was a need to do more in the Kilimanjaro Region, thus the tree planting initiative stemmed from our participation in the marathon.
“Planting trees will help with the restoration of the snow on Mt Kilimanjaro that we have notably seen decreasing for the past four years due to global warming.
What we want to do is focus on restoring what has been taken away to make Kilimanjaro a safe, healthy and green again,” he said.
