AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE national Under-20 side Ngorongoro Heroes are ready to face Ghana in their first match of the 2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at Stade Municipal in Nouadhibou Mauritania, on Tuesday.

The country’s flag bearers will be making their debut in the competition, ready to perform well.

After taking on Ghana, the Heroes will entertain Gambia at the same venue on Friday before winding up their group C campaign versus Morocco on Monday next week.

It will be the best platform for the players to sell themselves to the rest of the world considering the fact that they have reached the right age to trade professional football outside the country.

Moreover, these players need to be protected at all cost as they will be the ones to replace some of the senior players parading in the Taifa Stars squad as they near hanging their boots for international duels.

On several occasions, before travelling to Mauritania, Ngorongoro Heroes coach Jamhuri Kihwelo was full of praise for his charges that they will perform well throughout the competition.

However, during their drills, Heroes played two International friendly matches against Uganda Under-20 side in which the first match ended 1-0 in favour of Uganda while the second battle saw the Heroes punishing the visitors 5-3.

Their last match was a 3-2 victory over Namungo in an entertaining match that gave the boys confidence to stage a classic battle in the foreign territory.

All these games were purposely organised to give players the required match fitness so that in the end, they can do well by flying higher the national colours.

The featuring of Heroes in the Under-20 AFCON is simply the continuation of football success stories currently being enjoyed in the country which comes after the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals held in Cameroon of which Taifa Stars competed.
