AfricaPress-Tanzania: WOMEN in the country are required to abide by ethics in the upkeep of children in order to eradicate incidents of child abuse including rape and sodomy to women and children.

The call was made by Shinyanga Regional Commissioner, Zainab Telack at the event to mark International women day (IWD) for the region held at Ulowa ward in Ushetu,   Kahama District.

“We, women can eradicate rape and sodomy for the children if we know where your child is at all time, who are their friends and are playing with whom, as we believe this will greatly reduce child abuse,” the RC said.

Telack appealed to all women in the country to jointly make vows to eliminate child abuse if they abide by ethics in their children’s upbringing.

She also called on the women to continue working hard to contribute economically to their families and the nation in general, and added that they should assist their spouses to raise income for their families, they should not leave the task entirely to them.

Shinyanga Region Administrative Secretary albert Msovela said researches available show that there are still acts child abuse in the society and decay of ethics among children is contributed by parents and guardians who are not close to the children.

He said Shinyanga Region has resolved to fight acts of gender based violence (GBV) by empowering women, but also to provide education on GBV issues through various existing groups, including those that aim for their economic advancement.

The government in Shinyanga region joined with other regions in the country to mark International women Day that is celebrated on March 8 every year.
