AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Arch-Bishop for Rulenge-Ngara Arch-Diocese, Severine Niwemugizi, on Sunday urged Roman Catholic followers to honour the late President John Magufuli through emulating his good deeds.

Preaching during the Holy Mass of the Fifth Week of Lent at Bikira Maria Church, Chato Parish, the Archbishop said that the departed president sacrificed his life for others.

“He throughout sacrificed his life for his fellow Tanzanians, and this is how every human being should live. In recognition that the late Magufuli always wanted to do the best for Tanzania, let us continue praying for him,” he said.

“We should not think on one-self but to sacrifice ourselves for others like the way a wheat seed dies and brings a crop.”

“Despite his sacrifice, the late president may have created enemies and challengers in his tenure we know that he never gave up until the end of his life. We, also should abandon selfishness, and allow others to come to our souls, and (we) live our lives for others,” the Archbishop said.

He further called on the church followers to abandon the outdated way of living and start a new lifestyle free of sins.

“We should also forgive Dr Magufuli whenever he made  mistakes because he was also a human being and not an angel, and he believed in Christ throughout his leadership,” stressed Archbishop Niwemugizi.

The Church’s Catechist, Mr Clemence Malongo, commented that the followers would always remember the Magufuli as one of the church’s veteran believers.

According to him, the late Magufuli served the church as priests’ servant during childhood until he left Chato for his secondary school education.

A church follower, Mr Renatus Mzale, said that there were many reasons to remember the deceased, which was free of religious and tribal segregation.

“We witnessed him giving assistance to churches as well as mosques,” he added.
