AfricaPress-Tanzania: The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced that by-election in Muhambwe constituency in Kigoma will be held on May 2, this year.
The commission is seeking to fill the vacuum left by MP Atashasta Nditiye who passed away on 12 February, this year.
A press statement issued by the NEC’s director of elections Dr Wilson Charles in Dodoma Saturday, the Muhambwe by-election schedule has been released after the commission received an official letter from the Speaker of National Assembly notify that the said seat is vacant.
Equally, he said the commission will also nominate candidates on the third of April and the campaign will kick off on the same day.
The Muhambwe lawmaker Atashasta Nditiye died on February 12, 2021 at the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma where he was receiving treatments after involved in road crash.
