CONSTRUCTION MANAGER ARRESTED IN RESPECT OF AN ACCIDENT

AfricaPress-Tanzania: A construction manager who was overseeing the construction of an area near the railway line where a Taiwan passenger train crashed and killed 50 passengers, has been arrested for questioning after being implicated in negligence where one construction truck allegedly hit the train causing it to veer off course and overturn.

The manager was arrested yesterday and interrogated and then released on bail while the investigation continues.

Meanwhile rescuers continue to search the scene of the accident to see if they can find other bodies stranded inside the underground railway line.

The train was traveling from Taipei to Taitung and was loaded with more than 500 passengers, many of whom were relatives going to celebrate the holidays with their families.

When the train reached the Hualien area and started passing through the tunnel it crashed and caused the deaths and other passengers injured.

The accident happened yesterday morning in which 50 passengers died and 66 were injured, some of whom are undergoing treatment and some passengers have been rescued.

Among the injured, they are being treated at six different hospitals in Hualien County.
