Africa-PressTanzania. KILIMANJARO Regional Commissioner (RC) Ms Anna Mghwira has promised to look into issues, which delay subsistence allowances remittance to new employees posted into the area. In a speech read on her behalf by Siha District Commissioner (DC) Mr.

Onesmo Buswelu, during the Kilimanjaro Region’s version of the International Labour Day celebration held in Rombo District over the weekend further said: “Delays in subsistence allowances for new employees, especially teachers, will not be tolerated by the regional leadership. I promise to follow up on this matter closely so that it is addressed.” However, she expressed dismay over some allegations that some employers in the region are still violating labour laws and regulations by not providing their employees with contract letters.

“If there are such employers in this region, they must be aware that they are deliberately breaking the law, something that cannot be tolerated in Kilimanjaro Region…from now on, all employers and employees must ensure they have employment contracts, because this is a legal requirement and not a voluntary matter,” said the RC.

Earlier, Ms Digna Nyaki who was the coordinator of the celebrations organized by the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA) in collaboration with others said the delay in subsistence allowance remittance to the new staff has been a major challenge discouraging many of them.

“The subsistence allowance delays especially for new employees, most of them being teachers has been going up to three months and this has been discouraging, with others opting to resign or look for other employments opportunities,” she added.
