AfricaPress-Tanzania: FORMER President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to open an international inclusive three-day workshop aimed at finding long lasting solution to challenges facing education sector in the country.

The workshop that has been organised by Tanzania Education Network (TenMet) will attract various stakeholders from within and outside the country, beginning tomorrow at Kisenga Hall, Kijitonyama in Dar es Salaam.

Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, TenMet’s National Coordinator, Mr Ochola Wayoga said everything is ready for the meeting and they are ready to receive constructive ideas.

“We do conduct similar seminars every year where stakeholders in the education sector and development partners are given a platform to discuss different issues related to advancement of education.

“However, this year, the meeting has put on a new face as we have invited international education stakeholders, who will be in a better position to share with us on what they do, to scale up this important sector in their countries,” he said.

He added that a total of 15 topics will be discussed during the workshop, while the key one will feature ‘inclusive responsibilities in promoting education’.

“We want people to understand that it is not the role of government alone to promote education, but rather everyone should take his or her part in enhancing education standard.

“No one can dispute the fact that education is the key for development of any country, as such all possible ways to uplift it should be embraced at any cost,” Mr Wayoga noted.

Elaborating, he noted that participants throughout the workshop will be able to provide guidance on which education system should be entertained in the country.

“People out there are debating on what education system to suit our country especially in this 21 century and the only platform to get their ideas is through the oncoming meeting that is why we have invited key stakeholders in education sector,” he said.

Moreover, the TenMet boss said among the invited stakeholders during the workshop are ambassadors representing their countries in Tanzania, who will also speak out on what they think should be done to skyrocket education in the country.

Recently, the Minister for Education, Science and Technology Prof Joyce Ndalichako said review of education laws, policies and national curriculum were among measures to be implemented in the next financial year.

Prof Ndalichako revealed this when tabling her ministry’s 1.38tri/- budget estimates for the 2021/22 fiscal year, while insisting that the proposed changes are in line with changes in science and technology.
