Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIA lady golfers landed their first major tournament invitation to compete at the 2021 Zambia Ladies Golf Open.

This invitation comes after almost a year and half as coronavirus pandemic that is wreaking havoc across the world, halted sporting activities including golf tournaments.

The three-day 54 holes battle is scheduled to tee off from June 4-6 this year at the Bonanza Golf Course in Lusaka, Zambia.

Madina Iddi, a Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) Honorary Secretary told the ‘Daily News’ from Arusha yesterday that her union has received with thanks to the invitation from their counterpart Zambia.

“We are delighted to receive such an invitation from Zambia, we all understand that sports is going through difficult situation in recent years especially last year due to a Covid-19 that has set us apart for a while.

“As a golfer, you need to travel to improve your performance… you have to face other top golfers and international events are the perfect platform for that.

It feels good to see those good sports traveling days have started to come back,” she said.

She said that the invitation is open for all golfers and the union has already extended them to its member clubs for them to consider.

Iddi said that since the Zambia Ladies Open is open for individual players, TLGU appeals for those wishing to travel for the event to register, so that they can seek for the government travel permit and other formalities.

She stressed that since the World is not free yet from Covid-19, there are also other formalities to be fulfilled to be able to travel and enable smooth participation.

She said their hosts have assured them that safety is their priority and that the Bonanza course has prepared well. Golfers will only be required to go there with a Covid-19 certificate valid for 48 hours.

The secretary added that the competition has been pooled into four categories including Championship (handicap 0 -12), Division A (handicap 13-20), Division B (handicap 21-36) and Division (handicap 37-42).

Iddi said the hosts have set June 3rd 2021 as reserved for practice rounds before the event. For those wishing to take part at the event, she said, May 26th this year, is the closing date for foreign entries
