Africa-PressTanzania. THE University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has vowed to continue investing in research in order to support the country’s socio-economic growth.

UDSM Deputy Vice Chancellor -Research, Professor Bernadeta Killian said that, her institution has been conducting various research and come up with innovations that provide solutions to challenges facing the public.

Prof Killian made the remark in Dar es Salaam while speaking to journalists about the Sixth UDSM Research and Innovation Week which will take place starting May 24 to 26 this year.

The event which will be held at UDSM is expected to be graced by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.

Prof Killian noted that, UDSM had enough human capital, but it was facing a challenge of insufficient fund to finance the research ideas.

She noted that the university had 167 research ideas but it was able to fund only 67 of them due to financial constraints.

“Last year we spent 1.5bn/- for research but this year a total of 2.5bn/- has been set aside for research activities,” she noted.

However, Prof Killian said that, UDSM had sent its experts to do a pilot study to assess the quality of curriculum in the youth labour market it can be improved.

Prof. Killian said, there should be a better curriculum that would help achieve the goals of the government and promote the economy that will change the lives of Tanzanians.
