Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government of Zanzibar yesterday received Covid-19 rapid test kits worth 250m/- from SD BIOSENSOR company of Korea.
The testing kits are designed to give results in 15 minutes. Receiving the kits at the Sheikh Idrisa Abdulwakil hall, the First Vice President, Othman Masoud Othman (pictures) said the support will help Zanzibar to continue with the fight against the disease.
He said the support has been provided at the right time when Zanzibar was strengthening the fight against the deadly virus.
Mr Othman said early, Zanzibar concentrated on testing people who were planning to travel but with such support, the testing will now involve more people regardless they are travelling or not.
“We will now be able to test more people, this will help us to provide health services on time,” he said.
However, Mr Othman said the government was proceeding with strategies and plans to fight the disease by taking all required pre-cautions.
On his side, Zanzibar’s Health, Social Welfare, Elderly, Gender and Children minister Nassor Ahmed Mazrui said so far there was no Covid-19 patient in Zanzibar but asked the public to continue taking pre-cautions.
