Africa-Press – Tanzania. Authorities in Tanzania have arrested 124 suspected drug traffickers, as they intensified fight against drug trafficking in the country.
Counter-narcotic agency—the Drug and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) and the police nabbed the suspects during a well-coordinated drug raid between January and May this year.
Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability) Jenista Mhagama announced in Dodoma on Wednesday the arrest was in-line with the Drug Control Act No. 5 of 2015.
“DCEA has been collaborating with other security agencies including the People’s Defence Force to carry out anti narcotic operations on land, air and waters … the target is to block all entries for illicit drugs into the country,” she said.
The Minister said the government is working on public awareness campaign as measures to stop but also mitigate people affected with illicit drugs.
