Africa-PressTanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Ms Fatma Ayoub Mwinyimvua Simba as the Commissioner of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Tanzania (FIU).

According to a statement released yesterday by the Directorate of State House, the appointment was effective yesterday.

Prior to her appointment, Ms Simba was the Director of the Legal Service Department at the Capital Market and Securities Authority (CMSA).

Section 6 of the Anti- Money Laundering Act, 2006 empowers the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Tanzania to issue AML (anti-money laundering) and CFT (combating the financing of terrorism) guidelines to various stakeholders.

The Bank of Tanzania is responsible for ensuring that all banking institutions comply with all provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2006 as well as Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, 2007 and various guidelines issued by the FIU from time to time.
