CCM suspends Uhuru publication, top bosses for misleading presidency story

Africa-PressTanzania. CCM has suspended the publication of Uhuru newspaper for seven days after running a misleading story over President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to the ruling party’s Secretary General Daniel Chongolo, top newspaper’s three bosses have been suspended pending for an investigation over the motive behind for the running of such misleading story.

The newspaper owned by CCM’s Uhuru Media Group (UMG) misquoted BBC Swahili interview with President Samia Suluhu Hassan and published a story depicting that the Head of State is not intending to vie for presidency post in the next general election.

Responding to reporter’s question over the saga at a press conference held in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday afternoon, the party’s SG said apologized to President Samia over the misleading story as he announced the decisions reached by the UMG Board.

“It is true that the paper has put the words in the President’s mouth…we are apologizing to the President,” the Secretary General said.

He named staff suspended staff as UMG Managing Director Ernest Sungura, Executive Editor Athuman Mbutuka and Editor Rashid Zahoro

However, he unveiled that the board has formed a committee to investigate the matter.
