Africa-PressTanzania. MTWARA CCM regional Chairperson Yusuf Nannila has directed Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) to connect power to a water project in Nangomba Ward, Nanyumbu District, to enable quick provision of the service to the villagers.

Mr Nannila issued the directives here yesterday during an official tour of the CCM Regional Committee in the district to inspect the implementation of the party’s manifesto in the area.

“I want TANESCO to communicate with Nanyumbu District leaders for them to quickly connect electricity to the water project to ease the process of pumping water to provide services to the citizens,” he said.

Mr Nannila said connecting power to the water project would help lower the cost incurred by the villagers in accessing water generated through the project.

Presenting an implementation report on the water project, the district manager with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) Eng Saimon Mchucha said currently, the agency uses a generator to operate the project.

Eng Mchucha told the committee that the agency was incurring high charges in using the generator to pump water is a move that causes the public in the area to buy water at 100/- per bucket.

Mr Nannila reiterated the need for TANESCO to speed up the process of connecting electricity to help lower the charges from 100/- to 50/- per bucket of water to enable easy access of the crucial component of water to the villagers.

Meanwhile, Mr Nannila commended the government for facilitating the implementation of the water project, enabling the majority of the ‘wananchi’ in the area to access the crucial component easily.

He also thanked Nanyumbu district leaders for the commendable work and efforts ensuring implementation of the water project.

Mr Nannila and other members of the CCM regional Committee toured Likokona and Nangomba Secondary School to inspect the construction of hostels and classrooms and renovation of science laboratories.
