Africa-Press – Tanzania. SIMBA have announced that their annual ‘Simba Day’ will be held in September and not at the end of this month as earlier reported.
At first, it was declared that they will conduct the event on August 28th, one day before the epicenter of ‘Wiki ya Mwananchi’ event but the club’s Acting Information Officer Ezekiel Kamwaga has disclosed about the changes.
“People used to say that ‘Simba Day’ will unfold on August 28th but that was not the official statement from the club as such, the exact date in September will be communicated this week,” Kamwaga said.
Elaborating on the progress of the team’s preseason camp in Morocco, he pointed out that all is well and the team is expected to be there until end of August when procedures to return back will be made.
“As usual, on the day, we will have an international friendly match to give our members and fans the entertainment they deserve hence, we are heading to the right direction,” he said.
However, while in Morocco, Simba had a privilege to play a squad weighing match versus AS Far Rabat which elapsed in a 2-2 draw which made coach Didier Gomes to urge his side to improve and progress.
It was the first signal testing match for the champions who are still sharpening their swords in a foreign territory before the kickoff of the 2021/22 eventful season.
AS Far Rabat which is coached by former Simba Head Coach Sven Vandenbroeck dictated terms in the first half by netting a brace but they were easily contained in the second half.
The game was therefore a good platform for the French trainer to see the performance of his new players who have joined the Reds in the unfolding transfer window and they need more games to fit into the team’s formula.
The opening 45 minutes of the tie was awful for Simba as they trailed by two goals but at restart, they came afresh no wonder managed to equalise courtesy of Hassan Dilunga and the new signing Ousmane Sakho strikes.
“We have to be patient because I am convinced that this squad of Simba can do better. I am confident and I trust my team.
“We did not play well in the first half as we missed too many balls and we were not committed. Even our opponents gave us some problems in the midfield and defensive line but at halftime, we found solutions,” said Gomes.
He added that in the second half, they minimised the problems thereby scoring two goals while insisting on his players to always be positive.
Again, the coach narrated that with one month to go before the end of their preseason, he believes that within the upcoming two weeks, his team will change for good.
On his part, Sakho who netted in the 81st minute to level the deficit expressed his satisfaction for scoring but said it was a team work effort which yielded the goal.
